Volunteer Nominations Needed
CALLING ALL WALKER, CATOOSA AND DADE COUNTY VOLUNTEERS AND NONPROFIT ORGANIZATIONS! United Way’s Volunteer Center is accepting nominations until February 27 for the annual Volunteer of the Year Awards to be presented on April 17 at the Volunteer United Banquet. All volunteers from across the region and from any nonprofit organization are eligible for nomination. Every year, area companies from across the region join together to celebrate volunteerism and to honor local volunteers for their efforts. United Way’s Volunteer Center, the Corporate Volunteer Council and Directors of Volunteers in Agencies (DOVIA) annually host the awards recognition banquet during National Volunteer Appreciation Week. This year’s recognition event will be held Tuesday, April 17, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Unum, 2 Fountain Square, Chattanooga, Tennessee. To nominate an outstanding volunteer from Walker, Catoosa or Dade Counties, complete a nomination form online at www.LiveUnitedWCD.org (just click on volunteer) or print one and mail in your submission. Send completed forms to the attention of Windy Brooks, at the Volunteer Center, 630 Market Street, Chattanooga, TN 37402; FAX to the attention of Windy Brooks at 423-267-8060; or e-mail Windy Brooks at windybrooks@uwchatt.org . One volunteer from our region will be recognized in each of the following categories: Community, Education, Environment, Health, Disaster Services Individual, Disaster Services Group, National Service Volunteers (such as AmeriCorps, Senior Corps, VISTA, RSVP, etc.) and Youth Who Volunteer (ages 18 and younger). The Volunteer Center will also recognize a local business with the Corporate Volunteer Award for its commitment to the welfare of our communities. Companies may self-submit for this award. The Volunteer Center is part of United Way in Walker, Catoosa and Dade Counties, which funds local programs that create opportunities for people to care for themselves and each other, making our community the best at helping people achieve their potential. Thanks to an endowment fund that covers all overhead and administrative expenses, all contributions (100 percent) go directly to services that help individuals and families in the greater Chattanooga area, north Georgia and northeast Alabama. Additionally, all undesignated funds raised in North Georgia through United Way’s annual campaign will stay there, ensuring that North Georgia residents will directly benefit from local dollars contributed to the campaign.
