Volunteer Center Coordinates Disaster Services Requests
The United Way Volunteer Center has set up a call center to coordinate volunteer requests among the various churches and disaster relief agencies operating locally, and then match those requests to volunteers who want to help their neighbors as quickly as possible. Not only is the Volunteer Center referring individual volunteers, but also companies and organizations that want to volunteer as a group. Personnel with United Way’s Volunteer Center and 2-1-1 Call Resource Center have been out in the field and on the phone lines coordinating both service needs and availability and working to link volunteer requests to available volunteers. The Volunteer Center will also coordinate in-kind donation requests among relief organizations and volunteer groups and put them in touch with individuals, organizations or companies which have the ability to donate material goods that are needed as part of the disaster recovery process. If you want to volunteer or donate, or if your organization needs volunteers or in-kind donations, call United Way’s Volunteer Center. To reach the Volunteer Center, call Windy Brooks at 423-752-0316 or call Sheila Moore at 423-752-0351. United Way’s 2-1-1 continues to take regular calls for assistance, as well as calls related to family and individual needs resulting from the recent disaster. You can also reach 2-1-1 by calling 423-265-8000 or 1-866-921-3035.
