COURAGE AWARD INVITATION
Nominate your client for the Courage Award today

Dear Agency Partners,

The Alexis de Tocqueville Society established the Courage award to honor an exceptional individual who has received services from one of United Way's agency partners.

The purpose of this award is to publicly highlight a deserving individual who is a shining example of the outstanding work in human services supported by the United Way, as well as an example of perseverance in the face of adversity.

As director of the Tocqueville Society, I invite you to submit the name of a client who, either during or after receiving services from your organization, exhibited outstanding strength and courage in the face of his or her challenges.

The Courage Award has also been a huge success, generating publicity for nominees and the agencies where they receive services. Past recipients of the Award have been: Romeatrius Moss, a Girls Inc. client who earned a college scholarship and went on to earn her Doctorate Degree; Pam Perry who received services through the domestic violence shelter at Partnership for Children, Families and Adults and went on to become an advocate for the victims of domestic violence; Shira Shropshire, a client at Orange Grove who earned his GED; and Al Scarbrough who received training for the vision impaired at Signal Centers and started his own business after losing his sight.

The attached information includes a criteria sheet and an application form, which must be received in the United Way offices no later than noon on Thursday, February 9, 2012. The Tocqueville Society will vote on the nominees and the award will be presented to a winner at the United Way Annual Meeting on February 22, 2012.

If you need more information or help with your application, please call Kelley Nave, Director of Public Relations, at 423-752-0322 or e-mail kelleynave@uwchatt.org. We look forward to your nomination for the annual United Way Courage Award.
